I've been doing this job for over 20 years, and if there's one thing I know for certain, it's this: every woman's story deserves to be heard. Properly heard. Not analysed, or fixed, or turned into a five-point homework plan. Heard.
Coaching's brilliant when you want strategies, goals, a way forward. But sometimes that's not what you need at all. Sometimes you just need somewhere to say the thing out loud — the thing you've been carrying round, turning over at 3am, not quite saying to anyone because you don't know how to start. Sometimes you just need space to look at what’s really been happening, a space to look at yourself in the mirror.
That's what counselling's for.
Life throws a lot at us — relationships, parenting, money, work, health, the never-ending juggling act of trying to hold it all together while quietly losing track of yourself somewhere in the process. None of that always needs “solving.” Often it just needs time, and someone steady to sit with you while you work it out, at your own pace and in your own time.
That's the space I offer. No judgement, no performance, no pretending you're fine when you're not.
I won't sit there just nodding and saying nothing useful — I'll be honest with you, and I'll invite you to be honest with me too. That's how this actually works. You bring whatever's true for you, however messy, and we'll sit with it together.
I understand that coming to support or therapy can feel like a big decision. Before you begin, I encourage you to ask yourself these three questions:
Why is this the right time for me to make the changes I want?
How can I make space and time in my life to give myself the care and attention I deserve?
If not now, then when?
This will depend on what you need from counselling, what you want to change, and what obstacles might lie between you and making that change. Some people have three or four sessions and find they've got everything they needed to move forwards and to think and feel differently. Others find that once they start unravelling the layers, there's a lot more to understand about themselves than they first imagined. I don't start with a set number of sessions in mind — we'll talk this through and work it out together.
I work using Zoom, a secure video platform with an instant chat service too — you can choose to work with me using video or instant messaging, which works the same way as apps like WhatsApp.
For each session I'll send you an invite for the agreed day and time, and then hopefully the technology behaves itself on the day! You'll need a quiet, comfortable, private space where you won't be disturbed — feel free to bring a brew, a blanket, a fidget toy, or whatever else helps you feel relaxed.
Sessions are £70 per hour. I offer a limited number of reduced-rate sessions at £50 for self-paying under-28s, students, and some low incomes — please feel free to enquire.
You can come weekly or fortnightly, depending on what fits best for you and your budget. I'd encourage a few weekly sessions to begin with, so we can get to know each other.
